    • Many children feel threatened by a new addition to the family.
      • It is very helpful to have siblings involved in the idea of a new baby in the family.
      • Involve them in decisions about what the baby might wear or in decorating the bedroom.
    • When bringing the new baby home, it may be helpful for someone other than the mother to hold the baby, thereby allowing them to hug the waiting sibling(s).
    • Preschool and school-aged children want to help in the care of their new sibling. Provide them with specific and reasonable tasks.
    • After the infant is born, remember the importance of continuing to demonstrate your love and affection for the baby's siblings.
    • When the newborn receives gifts, it is especially helpful to have small gifts available for the brother or sister. This should be a wonderful time for parents, relatives, and special family friends.  Some of life's simplest pleasures are what the siblings will most enjoy.
