Arm Care:

  • Wear your compression bandage for 24 hours to help minimize bruising. 

  • Keep site covered for 3-5 days while the insertion site is healing. 

Important:

  • If the implant is placed after your normal menstrual cycle, you should use an additional contraceptive method (condom) for the first 7 days after insertion. 

  • The implant does NOT protect against sexually transmitted infections or HIV. Only condom use will protect from those diseases. 

When to call your provider:

  • Pain in your lower leg that does not go away

  • Severe chest pain or heaviness in your chest

  • Sudden shortness of breath with or without sharp chest pain or coughing blood

  • Sudden severe headache unlike other headaches you’ve had

  • Weakness or numbness in arm or leg, or difficulty speaking

  • Sudden blindness

  • Yellowing of your skin or whites of your eyes. Especially if with fever, dark urine or light colored bowel movements. 

  • Heavier than usual menstrual bleeding

  • If you suspect the implant is broken or bent
