How To Schedule Ear Piercing
Call your child’s primary CPCMG location, and we will guide you through the process to schedule ear piercing.
The patient must be a minimum of 2 months old and have had a minimum of one set of immunizations including Hepatitis B and DTaP.
Which ear piercing technique does CPCMG use?
There are 4 ear piercing systems in use at CPCMG. Your clinician will explain the process.
The 4 systems are Blomdahl, Coren, MediSystem, and Studex.
Blomdahl
Some CPCMG clinicians use the Blomdahl Medical Ear Piercing Method. This video shows you what to expect:
Coren
Some CPCMG clinicians use the Coren PS Medical Ear Piercing System (picture below). The procedure is quite similar to the Blomdahl method.

MediSystem
Some CPCMG clinicians use the MediSystem (picture below), which is similar to the Blomdahl.

Studex
Some CPCMG clinicians use Studex (picture below), which is similar to the Blomdahl.

What kind of earrings does CPCMG use?
Blomdahl
The Blomdahl Medical Ear Piercing Method uses nickel-free earrings. The earrings are designed to facilitate healing after ear piercing.

Coren
The earrings are available in gold or stainless steel. Please see more information below about the Coren System:
MediSystem
The MediSystem earrings are available in gold plated or stainless steel.
Studex
The Studex earrings are available in gold plated or stainless steel.
Can I bring my own earrings from home?
No. The Blomdahl Medical Ear Piercing Method, Coren PS Medical Ear Piercing System, MediSystem, and Studex include the earrings that must be used for the procedure.
How do I care for my piercings after the procedure?
Blomdahl
Clean with soapy water twice per day.
Change the earrings in 6 weeks.
Otherwise, try to minimize interaction with the piercings.
Return to the office for pain, fever, signs of infection such as redness or swelling, or for concern that the clasp/backing is embedded in the earlobe.
How to cleanse new piercings (Blomdahl)
How to remove the ear piercing earrings, instruction (Blomdahl)
Coren
Clean earlobes with alcohol daily for the first week.
Turn earrings once a day for 1 month.
Change earrings after 6 weeks.
Return to the office for pain, fever, signs of infection such as redness or swelling, or for concern that the clasp/backing is embedded in the earlobe.
MediSystem
Twist earrings twice daily with rubbing alcohol for the next 6 weeks.
Do not remove these earrings for SIX WEEKS and sleep in earrings for 6 months.
After 6 months, do not sleep in earrings.
Always check and make sure your child's earrings are not too tight.
Return to the office for pain, fever, signs of infection such as redness or swelling, or for concern that the clasp/backing is embedded in the earlobe.
Studex
Cleanse the earlobes once or twice per day with an ear care solution.
Leave training studs in for 4-6 weeks.
Return to the office for pain, fever, signs of infection such as redness or swelling, or for concern that the clasp/backing is embedded in the earlobe.
