When are my Baby’s First Visits?

    • When your baby is born, you will tell the hospital who you have selected as your baby’s Pediatrician (includes physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants).  One of our doctors will then know to come see and examine your baby every day they- are in the hospital.  Please mention their name and “Children’s Primary Care Medical Group (CPCMG)”.  If you deliver at a hospital that we do not round at, a different pediatrician will see your baby in the hospital and we will see baby as soon as you are discharged.
    • Call the Welcome Center at 858-502-1177 to register your baby.
    • Your baby’s first “well visit” in the office will be 1-3 days after you leave the hospital.
      • The exact timing is determined by the doctor who sees your baby in the hospital and will be based on your baby.
      • All CPCMG offices have availability to see newborns every day.
    • The next well visit will be at 2 weeks and then 2 months if there are no concerns. If there are concerns, we will let you know when your next follow up is recommended.

What insurance does my baby use?

    • If the insurance is through the parent’s work, they will need to contact their HR department to have the baby added on.
    • Otherwise, parents will need to contact their health insurance directly to add their baby.
    • Most babies are covered under their mother’s insurance for the first 30 days of life.

What are the ways my family can access care at CPCMG?

    • At your first visit, we will help your family sign up for MyChart.   MyChart allows you to:
      • Schedule appointments for well visits.
      • Schedule appointments for specific concerns or illnesses – both in the office and telehealth (video visits).
      • Send messages to your CPCMG care team.
      • Review medications and lab results.
      • Submit prescription refill requests.
      • Video visits: Scheduled with a CPCMG provider, these are available 365 days a year, including holidays (over the age of 4 months and for most concerns).
    • After-Hours Care: Children’s Primary Extended Clinics are offered weeknights and weekends
    • Nurse Care Connect: Nurse advice is available 7 days a week, even overnight.  Simply call your CPCMG office and select Health Care Advice to speak directly to a nurse.
