    Emergencies

    If your child is in crisis after hours, on the weekend, or during a holiday, please go to your nearest emergency room, call 9-1-1 (ask for Psychiatric Emergency Response Team), or contact the Access and Crisis Line at 888-724-7240.


    Rady Children's Behavior Health Urgent Care (BHUC) is appropriate for the following symptoms:

    • Suicidal thoughts 
    • Psychotic thinking 
    • Physical aggression or risk of harm to others 
    • Depression and/or anxiety 
    • Acute stress reaction 
    • Co-occurring problems with substance use/abuse


    Staff

    The BHUC staff includes a psychiatrist, a psychologist, clinical social workers and a case manager. Clinical staff are available during daytime hours to consult with parents and community providers to determine if a youth meets the criteria for the program. They have translation services in over 150 languages and dialects.


    Services

    • Walk-in clinic, available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday for assessment to address risks and referral, and linkage to community resources. Short term follow-up visits during the day following initial assessment and case management 
    • Urgent psychiatric/medication evaluations (by appointment only) 
    • Medication support (1-2 visits) for refills on current medications/emergent refill if unable to see current provider – cannot modify current medication regimen

    If a youth’s risk is imminent, staff will facilitate transport to an emergency department or psychiatric hospital.
